Christmas Tour 2016

I love, love, love decorating for Christmas. We got an early start and put up our main tree last weekend, Nov. 13. I just couldn't contain myself any longer!

To start the tour let's go to the master bathroom. This room has been neglected for far too long. We ripped everything out in 2013 and are ever so slowly putting things back to rights. So far that means a working sink and toilet. The soaker tub has yet to be plumbed. *sigh Maybe we'll tackle that when we do our annual home improvement push in February.

So this is my favorite piece in the master bathroom - an old oak icebox. I am told it was covered in green paint but the seller took the time to strip it down. I'm so thankful because I probably never would've taken the chance. I tend to keep things just as they are when I purchase them. (And green is my favorite color).

The tree was my grandmother's. She used it as her main tree once she was too old to put up a big one. It holds special memories since I lost my grandmother when I was only eight. The candle is made by a local woman and I purchased it three years ago as part of a fundraiser for my son's school. I love the scent - something twilight. And finally the frame and sugar sack I've owned for years. The frame is a favorite of mine and gets moved around the house showing off various treasures. I've even hung dried wisteria in it.

Under the tree is a pillowcase and I added a small piece of cedar from a tree in our yard.

This lantern and milk glass piece are set on my sink. I've added more cedar and some cotton harvested from a field down the road from my home.

This ornament is one my mom and I made many years ago. It was a kit she purchased. We had beads that we put in the metal frames and then baked them. Once they came out of the oven the beads were melted and looked like stained glass. I believe I was somewhere between 8 and 11 years old when we did this.

And finally one last view of the tree all lit up. The glow from the bathroom spills into the master bedroom and creates a wonderfully cozy feeling. Thanks for visiting. I plan to add more rooms to the tour this week!

The Kitchen

I've been so busy trying to keep up with dishes and keeping our brood fed that the kitchen hasn't gotten much attention yet. I plan to change that this week. Here's a sneak preview...

So this butcher block table is a favorite of my husband. The churn is also one of his finds. The rolling pin we found at an auction and got into a bidding war. We ended up paying over $30 for it. The bowl I found at the Riverfront Antique Mall. The towel is one I should've retired a long time ago - it's stained and full of holes but I loved the color and pattern so much I've been reluctant to toss it.

The wreaths & ribbon I found this week at a local "superstore". I could hardly believe the price of the wreaths - only $2.48. I'd love to get some more and hang them in the windows on the exterior of the house. The ribbon I love because it's burlap with a red berry designs. $4 bought 25 yds and it even had edged in wire so you can shape it. (I used the remainder to fashion a large bow for the top of our main tree).

Here's a closeup of the vignette.
